Filecoin (FIL), the decentralized Dropbox
Filecoin’s (FIL) mission is to shake up the storage services market. It is a decentralized peer-to-peer digital storage that uses blockchain technology. The term “file” in Filecoin refers to the currency’s feature.
Filecoin is a decentralized file storage and sharing network that uses the capacity of blockchain technology to provide consumers with a plethora of new business opportunities. Decentralized file sharing sites are now more common than ever. Filecoin integrates different technology to provide its customers with a one-of-a-kind experience, which turns into further opportunities to gain cryptocurrency.
In its most basic type, Filecoin functions similarly to other file-sharing sites such as Dropbox. The biggest distinction is that, instead of a central authority holding data, consumers who wish to store data will bid on available storage provided by miners. As such, Filecoin represents yet another use of blockchain technologies outside of financial applications.
The coin attempts to address several major issues in the file sharing and cloud storage sectors. These markets are now suffering from centralization. Large corporations, such as Amazon Web Services, control a sizable portion of the industry. Because of their positioning, they will impose skewed terms and higher fees on consumers that lack trustworthy alternatives.
Is Filecoin fast?
Censorship goes hand and hand with centralization. Gatekeepers are now being played by industry executives. They dictate what content is available to the public. Unfortunately, the pattern of invasive tech giants seems to be here to stay for the near future.
The decentralized approach to storage used by Filecoin prioritizes users and storage providers. The platform’s data retrieval speeds outperform market giants such as Amazon. If the demand expands, the infrastructure is built to adapt more quickly. As a result, Filecoin has the ability to become the quickest and cheapest method of storing data on the internet.
Coin is based on the Interplanetary File System, a peer-to-peer file storage and retrieval protocol (IPFS). This network is somewhat similar to Filecoin, but it does not have any financial incentives. The IPFS network allows users to freely exchange data and storage. They cannot, however, benefit from this protocol. In this way, Filecoin increases the system’s usability.
